The company running Louisiana’s Road Home hurricane rebuilding program paid its chief executive a $1.5 million performance bonus in 2007, drawing criticism from officials who say the company is stumbling in its effort to help disaster victims.
Louisiana eyes water wells for Katrina damage
The state Department of Natural Resources is launching a program to inspect as many as 4,000 water wells for possible damage from the 2005 hurricanes. The need for this emerged shortly after the storms. But finding the money for the work took time, said Anthony Duplechin Jr., a geologist administrator within the department.
General sets goals to improve hurricane preparedness
“Hurricanes Katrina and Rita were living examples of what can happen before, during and after a disaster,” said Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who directed relief operations after Katrina slammed into New Orleans.
